Sherwin-Williams’ 2018 Color of the Year is Oceanside, a deep blue with jewel-toned green, meant to “boost creative thinking and clarity of thought.” If you’re looking for a boost of creativity in 2018, why not bring a pop of this welcoming paint color into your home? Whether you want a big impact or something subtler, here are five ways to use this rich paint color in your house this year.

Create an accent wall.

Residential painting doesn’t have to be cumbersome! Create a bold statement and just paint one wall – it’s a great way to breathe new life into a bedroom, living room, or bathroom for the new year.

Add a (hidden) pop of color.

If you’re more of a minimalist, paint the inside of a closet or pantry door (see center image below) with Oceanside. It’s almost guaranteed to make you smile whenever you pop it open.

Update an old piece of furniture.

Add Oceanside in small doses by repurposing a piece of wood furniture, like this vanity. A chest of drawers, mirror frame, or set of kitchen chairs would also be great for swiping on a bright coat of paint .

Add some curb appeal.

Make your home stand out this Spring with a little exterior painting DIY by painting your front (or back) door in this dazzling shade of blue-green. This is a fairly easy project, so you can re-do it next year when Sherwin-Williams releases their 2019 paint color!

Keep it temporary.

If you really don’t want to commit, incorporate an Oceanside-inspired accessory of some kind into any room in your house. We recommend a lively rug in your living room, bold pillows in your bedroom, or even a blue-green flower display in your kitchen.
